The Honda PCX 125 Makes U.S. Debut

The latest technology in motor scooters is coming from Honda. The PCX 125 is made in Thiland, and has been released in the US, but not yet in Canada. For a 125 cc, the Honda PCX is fuel injected and liquid cooled. It also has the first alternating current generator (ACG) electric start in the world. It is so quiet, it is difficult for the rider to tell it is running at all.

It also has better fuel economy than even the 50 cc engines, with Honda claiming 110 miles per gallon. Owners say it is closer to 95 mpg, but still not shabby. It also has 3 piston front disc brakes and alloy rims. It has a center stand and a side stand. As far as Honda's motor scooters go, it is between the Elite and SH150i, and the sticker price is just between these two.

The PCX does not have the complete floorboard, more like Honda's larger scooters. Riders report great power for the 95 mpg, with a good braking system and more than adequate storage. The scooter also has a new, sleek look which pleases a lot of riders. In the U.S., the PCX is available in Pearl White and Candy Red.

The dashboard is elegantly simplistic and easy to read in both bright daylight and dark. There is enough room under the seat for a full helmet and the glove box also offers generous storage for a motor scooter of this size. It will be interesting to see how well the SH150i sells now that riders have a powerful option that is considerably cheaper.

Like many of the larger sizes scooters available, the PCX has more features like a motorcycle and fewer like a scooter. The PCX does have a step through design, so it is still technically considered a scooter and not a motorcycle. Riders also report satisfaction with the overall quality of the scooter. The handling is good, the seat comfortable and the maneuverability was satisfactory to the majority of riders.

The PCX 125 has enough room and power for two riders and features a fully automatic transmission, making it a good choice for first time riders of a two wheel vehicle. The floorboard is also generous enough for two sets of feet. The ignition cover with locking steering is a deterrent to theft. The PCX 125 is a move by Honda away from the retro trends. This scooter is all about what is the newest and latest in design and features.
